Tweak MSCONFIG Speedup Computer Performance

MSCONFIG or the System Configuration Settings of Microsoft Windows can easily speedup your computer performance in many ways. The MSCONFIG has always been there with almost all Windows Versions. But somehow most people were not aware of its existence. The MSCONFIG has evolved with every Windows version. Here we talk about MSCONFIG in Windows 7. You will find a corresponding MSCONFIG in all the previous and most likely in all the future versions after Windows 8. There are many tasks you can accomplish with MSCONFIG as I have given below.

If you want to tweak your computer much more than what MSCONFIG allows then you may Download SpeedyPC Pro which is an all in one Computer Repair and PC Performance Optimizer software which is a highly professional computer performance tweaking software that is almost automatic in operation and yet has been designed to be simple enough for a small child or even a 95 year old granny to use without any computer knowledge or experience.

How to Open MSCONFIG and Speedup Computer ?

To Open MSCONFIG dialog box you need to press two keys on your keyboard together which are “Windows” key and “R” key. The moment you press them together, you will get the Windows Run.. dialog box which you see below. You need to type the word MSCONFIG into the run command box and press enter button or click the OK button and you will get the System Configuration dialog box.

Windows Run Command.

Tweaking MSCONFIG Settings to Speedup Computer

When you typed MSCONFIG and pressed enter in the above dialog box you will find the System Configuration dialog box opening in a few seconds.  In the first screen which is called General, you do not have to do anything. It just shows you if your computer is doing a normal startup or a selective startup. In case you want to do a Diagnostic startup then you may click it to load basic devices and services only. Devices and Services will be available in detail in the other tabs like Boot, Services, Startup and Tools which you see along side General tab. The Microsoft System Configuration or MSCONFIG dialog will look like what you see below.

Tweak MSCONFIG Boot Settings to Speedup Computer

The Boot tab gives you the ability to Boot in various diagnostic methods. The first is Safe Boot where no additional drivers, hardware and software will not be loaded. This may be required if you are experiencing a computer freeze or restart regularly during a startup. Otherwise you just need to do one tweak in this tab which is to reduce the Timeout from 30 seconds which is default value to 3 seconds which is the safest setting. This will speedup computer by reducing 27 seconds straight away from your boot up time if you have more than one operating system installed in your computer. The advanced tab below if only for computer experts with adequate knowledge. So I do not recommend it to you if you are not well versed with computer operating system. If you want to tweak every aspect of your computer then go for  SpeedyPC Pro which is an all in one Computer Repair plus Performance Optimizer Software. View a screenshot of the Boot tab of the System Configuration dialog box that lets you speedup computer startup by a whooping 27 seconds.

Tweaking MSCONFIG Services Setting to Speedup Computer

In the System Configuration Settings the first advice I will give you is not to change any Microsoft services. To do this just put a tick mark in the box next to the “Hide all Microsoft Services you see at the bottom. This will ensure only a handful of services other than the hundreds of services essential to your computer are shown. Look for any service of a program or application that has been opening up with your computer startup which you always wanted to switch off. All software and drivers of those applications and hardware that you do not use regularly can be stopped by just removing the tick mark next to them and clicking on Apply button. If you are confident and have some technical knowledge then remove the tick mark from Hide all Microsoft services and remove those services you do not want. In case anything malfunctions after your next computer restart then just come back here and undo what you did now. Remember that many essential services will cause  instablity to your computer operating system. View the Screenshot of Services tab of the System Configuration dialog box below: –

Tweaking MSCONFIG to Speedup Computer Startup

Does your computer take more than 15 seconds to startup and become ready for use? If so then the MSCONFIG System Configuration Startup Tab is going to be very useful. In this  you will find far too many software and hardware drivers that are starting up with your Windows Boot Sequence. The software and hardware vendors put a link into the startup to ensure that your hardware drivers and software startup with the Windows are is always kept in a ready state to use so that you do not waste time for them to load into memory when you double click them. For example your printer hardware drivers and printer software load into to memory as your computer starts up delaying the startup itself and occupying a lot of space in the RAM or memory which other programs which you want to use first can use. View a Screenshot of the Startup tab of the MSCONFIG System Configuration dialog box.

Increase Random Access Memory RAM to Speedup Computer Startup

If you do not want to disable any of these software and hardware which is loading into the RAM then you must have about 4 GB memory or more. But if less than 2 GB memory is available then Windows will load those applications which got themselves loaded into the RAM at first, to a reserved space on your hard disk called virtual memory so that the current application can use the RAM. This costs you valuable time and you will see the hard disk light is on for a long time after you double clicked a program to startup. You can avoid this type of delays by removing the tick mark from those software and drivers which you do not need regularly. There is nothing to worry because these programs will in anyway be loaded into memory when you double click the application. So why load them during startup itself. Stop them from loading into your computer memory during Windows bootup and speedup computer startup performance. Alternately buy some more RAM modules and install to increase the memory. The choice is yours to increase your computer startup performance either by spending money buying new hardware or absolutely free using this MSCONFIG System Configuration utility.

Using MSCONFIG System Configuration Tools to Speedup Computer Startup

As I mentioned earlier, MSCONFIG has evolved over a period of time. The Tools tab was introduced later. There are many tools available to your in this. One of the main tools is registry editor. Windows Registry is the core or the nervous system of your computer. Like a nerve sends sensation to your whole body, the registry contains information about  everything in your computer. The Windows reads and writes entries to Registry every time your computer starts or shuts down, every time you install a software or uninstall a software, every time a software opens, gets used by you, or close, every time you install a hardware or a hardware drivers, every time you update your Windows, every time you change a setting and every time you do any thing, Windows registry is written. Every software and Windows itself needs it to locate files, drivers, software and everything else. The Registry tool you find in this tab can be used to edit registry. Here is a screenshot of the MSCONFIG System Configuration Tools tab with a few of the tools it contains: –

Fix Shortcuts Speedup Computer Performance

What is a Windows Shortcut ?

Shortcuts are links you place on your computer desktop or task bars etc so that you can go to the actual file or folder without having to navigate through the Windows Explorer. To place a shortcut on your desk top is very simple. Go to any folder or a file you want however deep inside the folders your file is using Windows Explorer. Right click on the file or folder you want a short cut on the desktop and select the option “Send to”. This will show you more options like Desktop, CD/DVD, Document etc. Click on Desktop and a small 1 kb link is placed on the desktop which will have a small blue curved arrow on the left bottom. Now you just need to click on this shortcut and the file or folder nested deep inside many folders will open. Shortcuts save time and effort. The Start Button on the left bottom of your computer is actually a pool of shortcuts organized into various categories like Accessories, Microsoft etc. You click on the shortcuts there and it takes you to the original programs nested in C:/Windows/system32/ folder or some other folders.

How Windows Shortcut Errors Slows Your Computer Speed ?

Consider that you accidentally deleted the folder for which you have created a shortcut on the desktop. Now if you double click the shortcut placed on the desktop, Windows will start searching for the file or folder which you have deleted and will not be able to find it or open it. Windows will now keep searching and you see that your computer is busy and not responding to your mouse and keyboard inputs. Windows has an inbuilt time of 20 seconds for which it will remain in the confused state trying to look for this missing file after which it will give a warning that the file is deleted or not accessible or just hang up which you call computer freeze. In effect, your computer wasted a lot of time looking for a file which no more exists in the location the shortcut is pointing. This also could happen if you shift the original file to another location instead of deleting it. Windows does not look for this missing folder or correct the shortcut error itself. This is just an example of a shortcut you placed on the desktop. Every Software you install into your computer and Windows itself places hundreds of shortcuts in your computer without your knowledge. Any of these shortcuts could lead to a problem and slow down your computer performance.

How to Fix Shortcuts & Speedup Computer Performance ?

You will need a professional software like SpeedyPC Pro which has an intelligent algorithm which detects this kind of shortcut errors and repairs the broken shortcuts automatically. All that you need to do is Download the software and install it on your computer. When you run SpeedyPC it will ask you for a scan. Once the scan which takes just about a minute, SpeedyPC Pro will display a list of all shortcut errors as well as hundreds of other errors existing in your computer which needs to be fixed to restore your computer back to its original rated speed.

Can I Manually Fix Shortcut Errors ?

Yes. To fix shortcut errors yourself manually, you will need to first find each and every shortcut in your computer, right click on it and then click on the Properties. Now click on the Shortcut tab on top and in the bottom you will find Open File Location tab. Click on it to open the folder where the actual file is supposed to be. If you find the file there it is OK otherwise you will have to point at the correct file location or otherwise delete the shortcut and make a new shortcut from the file or folder where it is now located by right clicking and selecting Create Shortcut option. If there 200 shortcuts in your computer then you will have to do this procedure 200 times. And once a week or so keep checking all the 200 shortcut links and correct the wrong ones once again. The whole purpose of having a shortcut is lost if you repeat a procedure 200 times. The solution is to use a professional software. I recommend Download SpeedyPC Pro – which is an all in one computer repair and performance optimizer software capable of repairing all your computer errors and Speedup Computer for High Performance.

Fix Windows Registry Errors Speedup Your Computer

Windows Registry is the core center of your computer. Your PC/Laptop Performance will slow down if there are errors in your Windows Registry. Computer experts claim that errors in the registry confuses your Windows operating system and it does not proceed further. Although, Windows will proceed after 20 seconds from this temporary computer freeze, this impacts your computer stability.

Registry Errors continue to increase day by day as you keep using your PC or Laptop. If you do not Fix Windows Registry Errors, then the computer freeze will become serious and your computer will show a Blue Screen Errors which says Windows has been halted or your computer restarts on its own.

If you still do not Fix Windows Registry Errors, your computer will crash and all your valuable data is likely to be erased from the hard disk.  So the most important aspect to Speedup Computer Performance is to fix all the Windows Registry Errors.

How to Fix Windows Registry Errors & Speedup Computer Performance ?

You would have understood by now that Registry is the Nerve Center of your Windows Operating System. You can see your Windows Registry by pressing Windows Key and R key on your keyboard to get the Run.. dialog box and then type the word REGEDIT and then pressing Enter button. Registry Editor will open. You can click the + sign on the left column of each entry and view each and every one of the millions of Registry Keys. It is humanly impossible to find all the Registry Errors from these millions of entries even for a computer expert with full registry knowledge.

Do Not change anything in the Windows Registry because Registry is a very sensitive area of Windows without which it cannot function. If you accidentally edit a registry value or make an invalid registry entry, you can cause your computer freeze and crash.

How Does Windows Registry Errors Slow Down Your PC Performance ?

Obviously, to Speedup Computer Performance, you need to fix windows registry errors. But how does these errors happen in the registry?  To understand the Windows Registry you need to compare the Windows Registry to a dictionary with a thousand pages and a million words with meanings in it. Each page of the dictionary contains a few dozen words.

How will you look for a word meaning in the dictionary? You will first search the top of the page for the first alphabet of the word, then search for the next and subsequently the next till you find the page which matches that word and then you will look in that page for the word. It is so easy.

Now consider that a very common word you are trying to find the meaning is missing in the dictionary because some one erased it. What will you do. You will try to do the same procedure once again. If you still can not find that word then you will read the entire relevant page once again to see if you missed the word you are looking for. The word was expected to be there, but you are not able to find it. You are in a confused state. You may once again try to locate the word and may even ask some one else to look for it, just to rule out that you have not missed the word in the dictionary.

The same scenario happens in the Windows operating system. When you install the operating system, Windows writes a clean and complete Windows Registry. But as you use your computer, it keeps modifying it. Windows itself or some third party software application you install in your computer can either delete a registry entry, modify the registry values or over write an existing registry entry with a new one. When Windows tries to look for a specific registry entry to execute a task you want to to be done, it will not find that information in the Windows registry and Windows gets confused exactly as you were confused in the previous paragraph trying to locate the word in the dictionary which you found was missing. I hope you now understand how Windows registry works.

Why Fix Windows Registry Errors to Speedup Computer Performance?

After having understood how the Windows registry works you can imagine that when a registry entry required by Windows is missing, modified or deleted by another software you installed or uninstalled your Computer Performance Speed is adversely affected. Your computer can keep searching for the missing registry entry till it finds it and you will find your computer in a confused state or your computer freezes and refuses to respond to your mouse and keyboard.

When the time limit set by Windows is reached, it will either proceed to the next step if it can or else your computer will restart and all the work you had done till then is lost if you were in the middle of your work. The same state of confusion is reached every time this registry entry is required by Windows operating system and you will experience repeated computer freezes and restarts.

If the missing registry entry is very important then your computer may crash and may keep crashing during the startup itself and you will never even be able to recover your files to work on another computer. To Fix Windows Registry Error happens to be the only solution to get out of this situation. In fact you need to keep removing the registry errors as it happens almost on a daily basis or at least once a week for two reasons. The first is to keep your computer error free and prevent computer freezes and crashes and the second reason is to speedup your computer performance back to its rated capacity.

Defragment Windows Registry to Speedup Computer Performance

Speedup Computer Performance by Fixing Windows Registry Errors

As you keep using your computer the size of Windows Registry continues to increase as newer entries are written into the registry by Windows itself as well as all the software you keep installing or uninstalling in your computer. Each time you open or close a software it reads and writes to the Windows Registry. Each time you press save file button, create new folders or files, edit a file or make a duplicate file, download some thing from internet, CD USB etc and everything else you do causes either the software you are using or Windows to write new entries into the Windows Registry.

The problem is when a software writes a wrong registry entry, or overwrites a registry entry which was already existing and essential for another software or Windows to run. When this happens that software or Windows itself will hang up as it will continue to search for a registry entry which is now not existing or has been modified accidentally. This leads of Slowing down your PC Performance, Computer Freezes and Crashes.

This means that you need to find and Fix Windows Registry Errors as soon as it occurs which is manually very difficult to achieve. You need a Professional Windows Registry Cleaner like Regcure Pro  that can do this job safely and efficiently searching through millions of registry entries, identify the registry error and correct them to prevent a computer freeze or crash as well as Speedup Your Computer Performance back to your computer’s rated performance speeds when your computer was new.

Fix Windows Font Errors – Speedup Computer Performance

Windows Font Missing is a common error most people find while trying to run a software application or trying to print a document. Errors like these could be slowing down your computer performance drastically as Windows searches for this missing font file giving you troubles like computer freezes or crashes if the file has gone missing or has got uninstalled with some third party software.

Why is Font Errors Happening & How it Affects Computer Performance ?

Windows operating system comes pre-loaded with over 450 font files. In you life time you may just about use five or ten fonts. Most people use just one font file which is the default in the programs they use. Even graphics artists rarely use even 20 different fonts out of this huge font collection. In addition each software you install into your computer also adds fonts into the Windows Font folder. Thus the number of fonts in some computers loaded with third party software and big graphics software like photoshop, microsoft office etc will have even over 1000 font files. Some software overwrite the existing font files Windows requires with an incorrect font file with errors in it which cannot be loaded into the memory for use by Windows. Also trying to load huge font files during a software startup could eat up a lot of RAM or memory which makes the availability of RAM for other software applications to load much lesser thus compromising the speed of your computer performance.

RegCure Pro can Fix Windows Font Errors.

Cleanup Windows Font Errors and Speedup Your Computer Performance

When your computer starts up it loads a lot of fonts into the RAM or Random Access Memory. When you load a photo editor or word processor or any such application, these software loads another hundreds of fonts into the memory which may be available for use only in that specific software which is in addition to those Windows fonts already in the memory. On the left you see a few font files in Windows 7. To view font files go to the folder in C:\Windows\Fonts and double click on any font file. You will be amazed at all the hundreds of fonts installed in your PC. To prevent these fonts from loading into memory when you do not want to use them will increase your computer speed. Just copy and paste the Fonts from the C:\Windows Font Folder to any other location or a CD or USB. Once you have backed up the font files you may delete them. Windows will not let you delete a few fonts which it requires and those which are already loaded into the memory and the fonts already being used by any software application which is running at that time. If you want to use a file later then just copy the font file back into the C:\Windows\fonts folder. But it makes a lot of sense to do this. In case you get any Windows font errors then just copy only that particular font back into the Windows Font folder. Once you restart your computer after deleting unwanted fonts you will feel your computer performance speed has increased.

Scan Your PC/Laptop for Windows Font Errors – Download RegCure Pro

Can Font Error During Print Affect Computer Speed ?

Not really. Your computer may not freeze up due to a missing font error. But your computer may slow down because it goes into a confused state when a required font is not found. The font is usually required to render a document or by the printer to which the software sends a document for print. This is because software like pdf files also send post script fonts. If the post script fonts option is not enabled in the printer settings then you may find that your printer is not able to print the document and Windows Font Error missing or post script font error message may come and your computer may stop responding in some cases. The best action is to open the printer properties and navigate to your Printer Advanced settings tab and enable Post Script Pass Through Option. When the error is removed your Computer Performance should increase.

Powerpoint Presentation Font Error and Computer Speed

Do you get Invalid Font Windows Error Message in Powerpoint when you try to run a powerpoint presentation made on one computer on another computer? This is because you have used a font in the presentation from the computer where you made your powerpoint presentation and then try to run the presentation on another computer where that particular font is not available. This gives Windows Font Error message and your computer may slow down. The solution is to either save the font also along with the powerpoint presentation as the facility exists or you should carry the font separately on a CD DVD or download the font and copy (install) font into the C:\Windows\Font folder in the other computer so that the powerpoint presentation can run with the font you choose and keeping your computer performance at its peak level without any problem. The new Windows operating system however has the capability to use the default font of that computer to replace the font which is not available in that computer. But I still recommend that you check your computer for font errors and fix them as soon as possible.

Uninstall Software to Speedup Computer Performance

Uninstall Unwanted Software to Speedup Computer Performance

Uninstall Software to Speedup Your Computer Performance

Your computer speed is at its peak immediately after a fresh Windows installation. But once you start installing third party software, your computer hard disk fills up slowing down the hard disk data access time. As the hard disk starts getting filled up you will find that Windows has to now breakup large files into smaller pieces and fit them in small places if adequate continuous free space is not available. This means that when you double click on a software or file, your computer has to search first for all the pieces of your file, join them in the RAM and then run it. This means data access time is even more time consuming degrading your computer performance speed. To regain the lost space, you need to remove all duplicate and junk files and uninstall all the software which you had installed and forgotten that they exist on your computer. Uninstalling software which you hardly use to save space and speedup computer performance.

How Uninstalling Software can Speedup Computer Performance ?

When you uninstall a software, it is not only does it free up hard disk space, it also reduces the size of your Windows Registry. Normally, when you install a software, it adds hundreds and at times thousands of entries into the registry. But when you uninstall the software, it leaves 90% of the registry entries behind. Even some folders and files are left behind. This is to make the re-installation of the software easy. But this technique used by software vendors eats up your hard disk space permanently in case you do not intend to reinstall the software later.

How to Uninstall Software to Speedup Computer Performance ?

It is actually very easy to uninstall a software. Click on the Start button on the left bottom of your monitor screen and then click the Control Panel. You will see the control panel dialog box open as below. Select the Uninstall Software or Uninstall Programs option.

Control Panel Screenshot of Windows 7

Windows 7 Control Panel Dialog box

Now click on the Uninstall Programs link you see on the left bottom in the Control Panel. This will open another dialog box you see below where all the software you had installed in your computer is displayed. All that you need to do is double click on any software program you want to remove from your computer.

Control Panel Screenshot of Windows 7

How Does Installing New Software can Degrade Your Computer Speed ?

When you install a new software application into your computer you need to think twice. The reason is that all software write many megabytes of data on your hard disk which can reduce your hard disk data access time, increases file fragmentation which slows down your computer performance, over write some Windows system file which can freeze up or crash your computer, increase the Windows registry size and fragmentation, over write  registry entries essential for Windows operating system to function and once again lead to serious computer freezes or crashes and much more. So unless you really want to use a certain software do not install it into your computer. If you really intend to install a software then ensure that you have downloaded it from the original software vendor website or cd because if you download the software from other locations there is a chance that the installer files may be containing virus and spyware which can seriously effect your computer performance speed and even crash your PC or Laptop. So before you install a software ensure you run a Virus Scan on the file. If you do not have an antivirus and anti spyware software already installed the Download Antivirus Plus Software Now !

Uninstalling Software Does Not Restore Your Computer Performance Speed

Remember that you can not restore your computer performance by uninstalling a software from your computer. That is why you should not install any unwanted software on your PC or Laptop. The reason is that when you uninstall a software using Windows Uninstaller which is built into your computer, it does not completely remove all the files it had written on the hard disk and never removes the thousands of registry entries it wrote into your Windows registry which is the nervous system of your computer. The uninstall software just remove some folders from your hard disk and leaves all the rest and leaves almost all the settings without reversing them back to what it was before installing that software. Some bad software does not even write a Uninstall Program entry which means that when you open the Windows uninstaller you will not even find an uninstall option given to you which actually means that you cannot uninstall that software from your computer ever.

How to Uninstall Programs Completely to Speedup Computer Performance ?

For all practical purposes you can uninstall software using Windows inbuilt uninstaller. Increase Virtual Memory to Speedup Computer Performance

Increasing Virtual Memory can Speedup Your Computer Performance. Not increasing it can even lead to occasional Computer Freezes and Crashes if you overload the memory and virtual memory. Virtual Memory is also called Page File. Virtual Memory as the name suggests is virtual in nature. Virtual memory is that part of your computer hard disk which the Windows operating system uses to swap items from your RAM or Random Access Memory. The swapping of memory from RAM to hard disk is the method your computer uses to never allow your RAM to run out even if you double click and run all the software installed in your computer. When you double click an application, Windows loads it into the RAM. But if you have less RAM than what Windows plus all the currently open applications need, then Windows will transfer a part of these files into a reserved space on your hard disk called Page File or Virtual memory. Increasing the Virtual memory can tremendously speedup your computer performance and you will not see Windows errors like “out of memory”.

How Much Virtual Memory is Needed to Speedup Computer ?

Virtual memory is managed by Windows by default. What ever is the amount of RAM you have installed in your computer, Windows will add 300 mb to that figure and reserves a part of your hard disk as the virtual memory or page file size. The minimum virtual memory allowed is 2 mb. You can also set the virtual memory yourself upto three times   the total RAM or random access memory installed in your computer. This however does not include the RAM you had allocated for sharing with your graphics card.

How Do I Find the Virtual Memory in My PC ?

To get the amount of the Virtual Memory, the amount of installed RAM and many other basic information about your computer press two keys together namely, the Windows Key and the Pause Break keys on your keyboard. You should see your computer’s basic system information in this dialog box. You can lick on the plus signs and get to know much more about your computer using the system information dialog box which you see below: –

Alternately, you may also click on the Start button at the bottom left of monitor screen, then click on the All Programs, then click on Accessories, then click System Tools and then click on System Information. This should open the system information dialog.

How to Increase Virtual Memory to Speedup Computer Performance?

Now you need to click on the Advanced System Settings in the system information dialog to get the system properties. In this you click on the Advanced tab and you will see the Virtual Memory written. Click on the Settings button under it to open visual effects.

Once again click on the Advanced tab in this dialog box and you should see page file size or virtual memory presently set on your computer. Click on the change setting and you should see the minimum allowed, currently allocated and recommended settings. When will Increased Virtual Memory Speedup My Computer?

Once you have set the Virtual Memory to maximum possible size, you need to close all dialog boxes and restart your computer. Once restarted Windows will accept the new virtual memory size and page your files from RAM more efficiently. You will no more get any Windows errors that your computer is out of memory and you need to increase virtual memory. You can feel the power of your computer immediately there after especially when you run many software together like photoshop and other memory intensive applications.

Virtual Memory on Other Drives Also Speedup Computer Performance?

No and Yes. No because Paging file is a single file. So virtual memory should be set only on one partition of one drive.  There is no point breaking up paging file and storing them on different partitions of the same drive. But the answer is Yes if you have more than one physical hard drives. In this case you may set paging files on each drive. If possible avoid setting the virtual memory on the drive that has the Windows operating system installed. This is because the hard disk can be used by Windows only to either load the application you double clicked into the memory or to write the paging file to the virtual memory. But if you have set the virtual memory on another hard disk then both these can happen together and speedup computer performance tremendously.

More RAM or Large Virtual Memory will Speedup Computer Performance ?

The answer is RAM. This is because, Virtual Memory only acts as your RAM. Hard disk data access times is very time consuming compared to RAM which allows your computer access data almost instantly. Further, if you have set virtual memory on the same hard disk as your operating system then application loading will need to wait till the RAM is emptied into the same hard disk area designated as virtual memory. The computer speed will further degrade if you set a virtual memory in more than one partition of the same hard disk. So resort to increasing virtual memory only if you do not want to buy more RAM. Today RAM does not cost much. So I would recommend everyone to install a total of 2 GB or more RAM. But if you do not run memory intensive programs then stick with the presently installed RAM and increase virtual memory for increase your computer performance without spending more money on your old PC/Laptop.

Speedup Computer Startup

How to Speedup Computer Startup and Performance ?

Does your computer startup in 15 seconds and becomes ready for use? Most people answer “NO ” to this question. The reason is very simple. A freshly installed Windows computer is designed to startup and become ready for use in a few seconds. But as you start loading software and hardware, your computer starts slowing down due to many reasons. But the most frustrating is when you press the start button and have to wait for minutes for your computer to finally get ready for use after loading all the installed software and hardware drivers etc and the hard disk activity indicating red LED stops flashing.

Why Your Computer Startup Speed is Slow ?

Almost every software you install into your computer will invariably put a quick start link on your desktop, put a link into your Windows startup folder and write thousands of entries into your Windows Registry. The more the number or software installed in your computer, more will be the time required to finish the Windows startup routine. The larger the Windows registry the more slower your computer startup. The more the icons on your desktop, the more time Windows will take to load all these icons leading to slower computer startup. Every hardware you attach to your motherboard or connect to your USB port will install hardware drivers which are essential for your computer to recognize and use the hardware like printers, pen drives, cd drives, external hard drives, cameras etc. In a nut shell we can say that the more the number of hardware and software in your computer, the slower your computer start up.

Remove Unwanted Programs to Speedup Computer Startup

When you install any new software yourself or it gets installed by itself, the software sends a link into the Windows Startup folder. Whatever shortcuts are found in this folder will startup with the Windows startup. For example if you had installed Adobe PDF reader, then you will certainly find a program in the Windows startup folder that is meant to startup with Windows which actually uses a lot of time to load during computer start and will use and block a lot of RAM or memory which is now not available to Windows for use which is not only slowing down your startup but also slowing down your computer performance always.

Why Do Software Put Links Which Degrade Computer Startup Performance?

The aim of adobe or any other software vendow putting this shortcut file in startup folder is so that, when you double click any pdf file, it opens fast because the adobe reader software is already lying open in the memory. In fact you are fooled into believing that adobe software is very fast to open. The point is do you regularly open pdf file? If you do then loading the pdf reader into memory during computer startup is justfied, but if you rarely open a pdf file then why slow down your computer startup and get frustrated everytime you bootup your PC/Laptop. This is the case with most other software that loads with Windows startup. You can delete these files from the Windows staratup folder, which you are sure you do not need to open during computer startup because, in any case when you double click a pdf file the entire pdr reader will be loaded in to the memory, but will take a little longer. So the choice is yours to allow all these software which you rarely use to load during Windows startup and slow down you computer startup.

How to Remove Unwanted Programs to Speedup Computer Startup?

There are two things to do. The first is to click on Start button on the left bottom of your monitor screen, then click on All Programs and then look for Startup. On the Startup folder Right Click and say explore. Once the Startup folder opens in the Windows explorer look for those programs which you do not need to startup and delete them. These are only shortcuts to the main applications and you can safely delete them. Also if you want some program which you want to startup with the Windows, then you can put a shortcut into this folder and those programs will open automatically during startup.

Using MSCONFIG to Speedup Computer Startup

The second thing you need to do is use MSCONFIG to remove all the unwanted software as well as services etc from startingup with your computer and speedup your Windows Bootup times. To do this press together the “Windows” Key and the “R” Key on your keyboard. You can also use the Start button and Run.. Once you do this you will get the Run.. Dialog. Type the word MSCONFIG and press enter key. You will get the System Configuration dialog box. Here you can do a few tweaks as below: –

Using Boot Tab to Speedup Computer Startup

In the System Configuratoin dialog box you have to Click on the Boot tab on top. In the Boot tab look for a tab called Timeout. You have to change the time out from 30 seconds to 3 seconds. This is straight away 27 seconds off the clock as far as your Windows Startup time is concerned. This setting is useful only if your computer has more than one operating system. Windows displays all the installed operating system to you for 30 seconds so that you make a choice. But in most computers there is only one operating system. So why wait for 30 seconds. The minimum allowed safe time is 3 seconds. So change 30 to 3 seconds to Speedup computer startup.

Using Startup Tab to Optimize Computer Startup Performance

In the System Configuration dialog box now click on the Startup tab. In this you will see all the software and programs that startup with Windows. If you find any software that you do not use regularly and remove the check box to prevent it from loading with Windows during startup. Remember not to remove antivirus and antispyware etc because they are essential for your computer security. But if you have installed two antivirus or antispyware software then you must allow only one of them to load into Windows memory. Otherwise the first antivirus will not allow the other one to load mistaking it as a virus or spyware.

Using Services Tab to Speedup Computer Startup

In the System Configuration dialog box click on the Services Tab. Here you will find dozens of services from Microsoft and many other software vendors which a checkbox ticked. Some of them may be running and some of them may be in stopped state. You can carefully read through them and decide if they are required or not and remove the tick mark from thecheck box and click apply. These services will load during the next startup and you will find a tremendous improvement in your computer startup speed. If you do not understand what they are then do not change any settings. Stopping a service essential for Windows or any of your software run will cause problems. If you do not have adequate knowledge then leave the settings as it is and use a professional software that can do this task safely like SpeedyPC Pro which will tell you the benefits and disadvantages of selecting any service off in a easy to understand method and allows you do it safely and if you do not like the results then the software allows you to revert back to the old settings in a single mouse click.

Using Tools Tab to Speedup Computer Performance

In the System Configuration dialog box click on the Tools tab. This is a very powerful tab which gives you access to many core features of Windows. Use it carefully. Click on the Registry Editor and then click launch button on the bottom to see your Windows Registry. You should not change or edit the Windows registry if you do not have the technical knowledge necessary to do it because even a single wrong registry entry could send your computer freezing and crashing. But tweaking the Windows registry is the best method known to speedup your computer startup and overall PC performance. I strongly recommend you Download SpeedyPC Pro – (Click Here) or such other professional software that allows even a child or a 90 year old granny to safely tweak each and every settings in the Windows Registry very safely to speedup computer performance.

DEFRAGMENT HARD DISK TO SPEED UP COMPUTER PERFORMANCE

Repair Windows Errors. Speedup Your Computer for High Performance in 5 minutes.

Speedup Your Computer Performance by Defragmenting Hard Disk

Hard Disk is the most important part of your computer which most people neglect. You must Reduce Hard Disk Data Access Time to Speedup Your Computer Performance. This can be done by using Professional Hard Disk Defragment Software or by using the Windows inbuilt hard disk defragmentation software which is grossly inadequate because it does only a coarse hard disk defragmentation. Even if you have bought a very costly high performance computer with a lot of RAM or memory module capacity, very high capacity hard drive with storage capacity in GB or TB capable of 15000 rpm and the ultimate CPU available on the planet, what you forget is that unless you maintain your hard disk properly, all the money spent on your computer goes a waste because the hard disk data access time is a major factor in determining your computer speed. You will believe it only after you Defragment Computer Hard Disk and restart your PC/Laptop to feel the difference in the computer speed of a defragmented hard disk with the best data access speed you can ever achieve.

How Hard Disk Defragmentation can Speed Up Your Computer ?

When you buy a new hard disk it is totally blank. When Windows formats your hard disk, it writes a master boot record (MBR). Then it loads operating system, files or folders which you want to store on the hard disk. But as you keep installing new software and store thousands of files, the hard disk starts getting filled up. Windows stores files on the hard disk in an unorderly fashion.

Fragmented Files Slow Down Computer Performance

Suppose you want to store a very large video file and the hard disk does not have enough continuous space free to keep the file in one piece, then Windows will break your video file and store it in pieces in various places between previously stored files and keeps adding the address of each piece of your video file in the Windows Registry for finding it later.

Improve Hard Drive Data Access Time to Speedup PC Performance?

Now you double click on the video file you saved on your hard disk in pieces to watch it in your media player using the Windows Explorer, Windows will first look for the location address of each piece of the file and then tries to join them in your RAM or Random Access Memory Module. Once the pieces are joined then Windows Media player may start playing the file. But you will find that the video file took a long time to load and start playing and all the while you found your computer hard disk LED was glowing red. This means your hard disk data access time is not optimized causing degradation of Computer Performance which is avoidable.

Defragment Hard Disk to Speedup Computer Performance

If you are not happy having a coffee as your computer prepares your video file to be loaded, stitch all the fragmented pieces of your video file and then played with a lot of delay, then you must Defragment Computer Hard Disk and restart your PC/Laptop to realize the full power of your computer. Hard Disk Defragmentation takes a lot of time which depends on the capacity of your hard disk and how much space is used up to store data on it.

Defragmentation Speed of Your Computer Depends on Free Space Available

Larger capacity hard disk will take longer time to defragment. Some times even if the hard disk is of less capacity still it will take a long time if the free space available on the hard disk is less than 15% and some large files may not get defragmented because of lack of space to store these files during the process of disk defragmentation. This is because Windows needs space to join the fragmented pieces of the file and then needs to write it another contiguous space.

Delete Duplicate Junk and Temporary Files to Speedup Your PC Performance

To Speed up your computer performance, along with Hard disk Defragmentation, you will also have to Delete Junk/Temporary Files from your hard disk to free up maximum space which will speedup your computer performance even if you do not defragment hard disk. More free space also helps Windows to store large files for joining the fragmented pieces together and then save it again on the hard disk. Thus we know that the requirement for a faster hard disk data access depends on the amount of data saved on your hard disk and the extent of file fragmentation. There fore we need to first reduce the amount of unwanted junk, temporary and duplicate files to free up hard disk space and empty the recycle bin. After that we should defragment the hard disk ensuring that there is at least 15% free space available for efficient defragmentation. Once hard disk defragmentation is completed you need to restart your computer.

Which Hard Disk Defragmentation Software to Use ?

Windows has a hard disk defragmentation software inbuilt in it. You can use it from Start/Accessories/SystemTools/DiskDefragmenter. The inbuilt Windows Disk defragmenter is not very efficient as it will not defragment those files which are already in use by Windows.  Download Professional Hard Disk Defragment Software  for more efficient and a thorough defragmentation process to give exceptional hard disk defragmentation as well as reducing hard disk data access times which will inturn speedup computer performance tremendously. Delete Temporary Files and Speedup Your Computer Performance

As you work on your computer every day, Windows continues to create temporary files in two major folders. One in the Windows Folder and another in the Temp Applications Folder. These files continue to be created every day and Windows never reuse it. Every time you open a software application a set of new temporary files are written. Even when you unzip a compressed file, the Windows writes the files first in to the temporary folder and then copies it into the folder you specified. If the files already exist then Windows will simply over write it. This means you do not need these files for reuse later.

Temporary Files Slow Down Your Computer Speed

These temporary files slow your computer speed drastically in many ways. The first is that  your computer hard disk gets filled up with junk and duplicate files. Secondly these junk files will increase the fragmentation of files which are written later. Fragmented files needs to be rejoined in the Memory or RAM before Windows can use it. This causes a delay in opening a file when you double click it. The fragmentation of files cause speed degradation in accessing data stored on your computer hard disk. All these will Slow Down your Computer Speed. The only solution is to delete these temporary files which Windows will never require as it will be re written in the temp folders.

Delete Temporary Folders to Speedup Computer Performance

It is very simple to delete temporary files from your computer. Just press Windows Key and R key on your keyboard TOGETHER. This opens the Run.. Dialog. Type the word TEMP and press enter. The temp folder will open and you can select all the files in this folder and press delete or shift delete confidently as Windows does not require it and it will rewrite these files when it needs anyway. But any file being used by windows at that time cannot be deleted. You can delete them later or simply leave them there.

If you do not want to do all these steps manually then I recommend that you                       Download Automatic Computer Speedup Software

Delete Windows Temporary Folders to Speedup Computer Performance

The next step is to press together Windows key and R key on keyboard to get the run dialog again and type %TEMP% and then press enter. This takes you directly into another Windows Temp folder in which most files are duplicates you deleted before and some are new. Once again these files are not required anymore and windows will rewrite it when it needs any way and thus is very safe to delete them. Select all the files and delete all of them. Remember that any file which is in use will not be deleted and you can skip it or delete these temporary files later.

Defragment Hard Disk to Speedup Your Computer Performance

I recommend you Defragment Hard Disk to Speedup Computer even betterOnce you have deleted temporary files from your computer hard disk your computer speed will automatically increase. But by defragmenting the hard disk Windows will rearrange all the files after joining the pieces of files lying here and there on the hard disk into one piece. Once the defragmentation is over
